Finally, some positive jobs news

Published: Feb 11, 2010

It had to happen. At some point, we knew we'd get sick of reading about all those layoffs in the media. And, just when we thought our tolerance had been stretched to breaking point, the media seems to have gotten the message. I mean, what other reason could there possibly be for the fact that they seem to have decided to start reporting on companies that are creating jobs. What, no jobs were created in 2008 and 2009? 7 million jobs were eliminated? Ah. Well, regardless: here's a bunch of companies who have decided their need to do things is great enough that they're willing to actually pay people to come and do them. Novel concept, huh?

fireworksAllstate is hiring 600 bilingual workers in Texas
They'll be staffing a new $11.6 million customer information center in San Antonio.

Yelp is hiring 200 in Scottsdale

Schneider National is hiring 2,100 Regional Drivers
The move will "expand its pool of regional truckload drivers more than 600 percent this year".

Florida needs nurses

Time Warner Cable is hiring 170
Not for on-air though: the positions are all based "at its Regional Outbound Center in Albany, NY."

Tata Consulting is planning 30,000 hires next year
Caveat: "70% of the staff to be hired next fiscal year will be fresh graduates and more than 2,000 will be recruited from outside India."

The New York Times is hiring "a handful of people"
Not journalists though—only tech people and software engineers to work on their pay wall.

Hopefully, this kind of thing will continue. If it does, we'll make this a regular feature! With that in mind, let us know—either via the comments field, email, or Twitter—of any hiring activity we may have missed.
