Coming Soon To a Blog Near You: The World Business Forum

When it comes to planning a career, it makes sense to take into account the factors and challenges that are shaping our world today, and to consider how we're likely to meet those in years to come. After all, where there are challenges, jobs tend to follow. The question, though, is how one assesses which of the challenges we face are most likely to lead to a meaningful career?

One way to answer that question is to find out what the top leaders, innovators, and thinkers of today foresee in the future; it's a pretty safe bet that the thoughts of the people who matter today are likely to shape tomorrow. Covering all of that, however, is easier said than done: getting access to the thoughts and insights of the world's key movers and shakers can be a costly and time-consuming process. Take, for example, the upcoming World Business Forum, which is meeting in New York City next week (October 6-7). Featuring the likes of Bill Clinton, Jack Welch, T. Boone Pickens, George Lucas and many more, it's sure to be a hotbed of ideas that give an indication of where we're headed in the next few years. At $2,190 for a ticket, however, it's likely beyond reach of most people who aren't already employed, and traveling on a corporate dime—and in this economic environment, even the corporate dimes have dried up for many.

Not to worry: for the first time, we here at Vault will be covering the event from the inside, with a team dedicated to nothing else but blogging and tweeting any and all insights we can glean from the participants—whether they're giving presentations or standing in line waiting to hear one. To keep up with our coverage of the event—which will be ongoing for the two days of the forum and, likely, for a couple of days after it as we try to provide some perspective on the whole thing—you can check in with our blogs and/or follow us on Twitter for updates and links to any content we produce or happen to see elsewhere relating to the event (we'll be using the @vaultcareers account, with occasional updates on @vaultpinkslip thrown in for good measure).
