A plan for dealing with the next recession

From the New York Times: proof that Government is where it's at if you're looking for job security.

"While the private sector has shed 6.9 million jobs since the beginning of the recession, state and local governments have expanded their payrolls and added 110,000 jobs, according to a report to be issued Thursday by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government."

It's not exactly a surprise that government hiring has held up through the recession; it's done so through every recession. The following graphic from the Times piece says more than a 1,000 words on the subject could:

One interesting thing to note: since 1969, there have been seven recessions, occurring at intervals of between three and ten years. Given that economists are telling us that the current one—which started in December 2007—is all but over, the smart money is on a new one rolling around anywhere between 2011 and 2017. My advice: if you want to remain employed through it, start looking for government work now!
