28 places to see before you lie (and say there are no jobs o

Despite what our ever-growing Layoff Tracker might tell you, many companies are still hiring, though such information is often overshadowed by headlines filled with gloom and doom. While several of the firms highlighted on the online version of Fortune have weathered a round or two of high-profile layoffs, there are others (like MetLife, UPS and Coca-Cola) that are doing relatively well for themselves. (The number of openings is calculated using each company's career web page and other sources.) And the first entity listed is Wal-Mart -- No. 2 on the Fortune 500 for 2009 -- which it says has "thousands" of job opportunities in management, pharmacy, customer service, and other areas.

Frankly, the piece is rather annoyingly presented as a series of 28 "slides," one for each firm. But it's worth some effort to sort out almost 45,000 potential sources of income, right? Make sure to thank Pink Slipped when the seeds of this blog posting grow and mature into your next job.
