Best in Class: Vault Releases Its Tech Consulting Practice A

Entering into the world of IT consulting is only the first step along the career path.  The next is determining which practice area will make the most of your talents.  Once you have made that decision, the next step is made easier thanks to Vault’s Tech Consulting Practice Area Rankings, a guide to job seekers who want to know which companies are the most prestigious companies to work for in a particular field.  Vault’s Tech Consulting Practice Area Rankings enable aspiring technology consultants to make informed decisions that will help them land a job at a top firm that matches their professional interests.

For the most part, you can’t go wrong with IBM Global Technology Services.  The Tech Consulting powerhouse took the top spot in three of four categories offered in this year’s rankings.  When they were not No. 1, they were No. 2.  Translation – Having IBM on your resume is the key to opening most doors in the IT Consulting field. 

In order to determine the Technology Consulting Practice Area Rankings, consultants were asked to vote for up to three firms they consider the best in each category. (Consultants were not allowed to vote for their own firms.) These rankings measure perceived prestige in each practice area (as determined by consulting professionals) and not revenue, size or lifestyle. Vault’s rankings indicate the top firms in each area, as well the total percentage of consultants who voted for that firm, offering associates a tool to aid in their career search.

IBM took the top spot for IT Operations, IT Public Sector and IT Cyber Security.  One survey respondent may have summed it up best when they called IBM ‘information technology experts.’  Not to be outdone, Accenture, which came in at No. 2 in IT Operations and tied for third with Deloitte in IT Public Sector, was noted the top firm for IT Outsourcing.  Here is a look at the four different categories examined this year, along with the Top 5 firms in each field.
