Spring has sprung, which means starlings are singing and bumblebees are stinging. It also means Vault has sprung its annual Banking Survey upon professionals at top employers in North America and Europe.

This year, as in year's past, we're asking bankers, among other questions, to describe their "perception" of their competitor firms by giving us a few words, a phrase or even a couple of complete sentences to describe them. At Vault, we call this "the Buzz."

And below, as part of an ongoing effort to take you behind the survey scenes while we tally the quantitative results and compile the qualitative data, you'll find our 10 favorite Buzz quotes of the week (though we didn't include the name of each bank that corresponds to each quote—we don't want to give away too much just yet—we will tell you this: every firm described below ranked among the top 20 most prestigious banks in our 2009 survey).

"They've been stealing great talent from our firm"

"Wins deals by brand name alone"

"Former star; lost its best people"

"The best boutique"

"Strong reputation; passing Morgan Stanley and looking up at Goldman"

"Still too European"

"All debt, no equity, with weak U.S. presence"

"Still prestigious, but growing reputation for poor treatment of interns"

"Best deal flow and risk taker, though their PR could be the beginning of the end for this dynasty"

"IPO has created chaos at the partner level—could be a disaster"
