Second-Highest Paying Job for Women: CEO?

Forbes.com released a list of the top-10 highest paying jobs for women today. Based on the U.S. Department of Labor Women's Bureau 2008 analysis, this list has its share of shockers. Like No. 2: CEOs with a median annual income of $83,356. Surprising when we can literally count the number of women at the helm at Fortune 500 companies.

What is encouraging though is that the gap between salaries for men and women colleagues has closed somewhat with the report pegging it at having narrowed by 10 percentage points since 1990. However, the gap remains large when we move from percentages and see the sheer numbers. Ten million men occupy the highest-paying bracket while only 3.5 million women share the same bracket.

No.1? Pharmacists. The lists rounds off with computer software engineers, lawyers, speech language pathologists, surgeons and physicians, HR managers and management analysts.
