Nothing Terminator About the United States Postal Service's T3s

For being a federal agency, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is stepping up its act on achieving sustainability far quicker than the other departments. The postal delivery service is testing three-wheel electric vehicles, called T3s, in Florida, California, Texas and Arizona as "possible replacements for traditional gasoline delivery vehicles."

According to gas 2.0, a blog focused on discussing biofuels and the oil industry, the T3 "has a range of 40 miles, a maximum speed of 12 mph and a load capacity of 450 pounds." It is powered by two rechargeable modules besides having "zero tailpipe emissions" and costs 4 cents a mile to operate.

Of course, this initiative comes amidst a $3.8 billion loss as of 2008. How many of these vehicles that are actually rolled out remains to be seen. But it certainly is a step in the right direction. And for a federal agency to recognize the need to reduce carbon emissions deserves note. Duly noted, Uncle Sam.
