It's been a week of firsts for diversity in the broadcasting industry. First, the Clear Channel announcement and yesterday BBC's Younge lashing out at his employer for not having made their self-imposed diversity targets in hiring and promotions. Today, the Federal Communication Commission announced their new chief diversity officer.

Mark Lloyd, vice president of strategic affairs at the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and a former broadcast journalist and communications lawyer, promises to have a full portfolio at the FCC. According to civilrights.org, he will work on the commission to "develop communications policy that will increase media diversity and address the needs of low-income people, women, minorities, people with disabilities."

A big week for sure for the broadcasting industry. And now promises for more regulation toward ensuring diversity among the ranks. Is the ol' boys club listening?
