It's Day 26 of 2011 and the events calendar is already chock-a-block with conferences, panels and seminars that promise to ask difficult questions highlighting some of the year’s toughest challenges—jobs, educational system, the stuttering green economy, future of clean energy, the ongoing debate on corporate social responsibility, and much more.

But first on our agenda for February is Social Media Week New York.

Running from February 7 to 11, the week will feature hundreds of events occurring throughout the city, all of them debating one big underlying question: How is social media changing our life and what opportunities and challenges does it present for our brand, our career, and our personal choices?

So, what’s on our radar during #SMWNY?

February 7th: Social Media to Engage Stakeholders (on Sustainability & CSR)

Agenda: The panel, featuring Fenton’s Susan McPherson, Avon's Corporate Responsibility Director Susan Arnot Heaney, Cary Krosinsky, SVP for Trucost and a lecturer at University of Maryland's Smith School of Business, and yours truly, will cover questions like how companies can leverage social media to increase engagement with all their stakeholders, what are the most important tools for these conversations, and who are the influencers in this space that are reshaping the dialogues.

Where: Greenspaces, 394 Broadway Avenue, 5th floor, New York

February 8th: The New Normal: 12 Driving Forces in Communications

Agenda: Five years ago there were no iPhones, no Kindles, no iPads, no Flip cameras, no Twitter, no YouTube, no Facebook, and no widespread instant messaging. Media as we know it is rapidly changing before our eyes. What does this mean for how we communicate our ideas, business, and stories? And, most importantly, how are these changes changing us, our hiring practices, and how we think?

February 10th: Social Media & Your Career: What You Need to Know

Agenda: In a recent Vault survey, 87% of employers said they use social media but over 40% of candidates said have never used social media in their job search. And many more are confused about which network to join, how to make the right connections, and how to translate these into meaningful career moves. Join Vault experts and area recruiters in an interactive session on how to use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn for career advancement.
