Booz Allen Predicts 7.9 Million New Green Jobs: What's the Catch?

A new Booz Allen Hamilton study estimates that green building projects will support or create 7.9 million jobs between 2009 and 2013. According to Reuters, these projects will include weatherization of existing buildings, rehabilitation of older buildings to save energy, renewable energy projects, and a host of other green construction efforts.

The catch? There are a couple:

  1.   These jobs mean hefty investments with long term payoffs and tend to have a staggered effect on hiring rather than creating millions of jobs immediately.
  2.   Republicans gaining numbers in Congress will curtail spending on green construction projects severely. And if more follow New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's lead, some of these projects may never see the light of day.

A final note of warning from the Reuters report: "China's going to steamroll us if we don't get into the game!"

Now, if that’s not motivation enough…
