President Obama isn't the only one giving back these days. Deloitte announced this week that it was beginning a program, in conjunction with American Corporate Partners, to mentor Iraq and Afghanistan veterans looking to land private sector jobs. Deloitte professionals in Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, DC, will meet with their protégés monthly for a year, helping them to transition into the business world, evaluate their career path, broaden their networks and utilize their military skills in a new context.

Deloitte volunteers

Deloitte is well known for its commitment to community service—most notably for its firmwide IMPACT Day, one of the largest such initiatives in the country. In fact, in 2008 Deloitte was recognized by President Bush for its commitment to community volunteering.

On the other side of the extracurricular spectrum, Deloitte landed a spot in the finals of the office choir of the year competition in London. The final competition will be held on March 16. Still no word on what the choir will be singing, but the firm is certainly setting high expectations: "Our repertoire for the finals is challenging, so we are looking forward to the main event," said Managing Partner Heather Hancock.

Here's hoping they come up with something better than the folks over at Nixon Peabody, who in 2007 released a spirited, morale-boosting number—which was then "accidently" leaked to the public and turned into YouTube fodder.
