I know we haven't had an education news round-up for a few weeks while I was on vacation, and I apologize. But I'm back and we are bringing you this week's news as if no time was lost. Without further ado:

Georgetown University Law Center is the 2009-2010 most popular law school

Georgetown University Law Center received the most applications of any U.S. law school in 2009-2010. With 12,404 applications, about 14 percent of all law school applicants--that's one in seven!--applied to the law school, making it the most popular JD program in the country for the Class of 2013.

The PhD Project adds new initiative to boost minority MBA faculty

The new initiative, called Project AHEAD (Achieving Higher Education Administration Diversity), is aimed at increasing the number of minority professors in dean and other faculty leadership positions in business schools. Project AHEAD will offer training, mentoring and networking opportunities to prepare professors for leadership positions.

Top 5 Most Innovative Law Schools

This week, preLaw magazine announced its list of the 2010 Most Innovative Law Schools. "Whether it is upgraded student services, creative clinics or radical coursework, these educators are taking law school to the next level," says the magazine. So who takes the cake? You're not likely to find their names at the top of a prestige rankings. Seattle University School of Law, Syracuse University College of Law, Touro College's Fuchsberg Law Center, University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law and Washington & Lee University School of Law are pushing the envelope and redefining law school education.

Schools put free courses online to "share the world's knowledge"

Much like London School of Business' Facebook MBA, MIT, Harvard University and University of Michigan are among the top U.S. universities putting free courses online as part of the Open Educational Resources Movement. The hope is that free access anywhere around the world to classes at top schools will increase knowledge and promote education globally. The online courses are also great for prospective students to see what learning at a particular college would be like before applying.
