A Day in the Life: Public Defender

8:30 a.m.: Arrive at office. Prepare for court.

9:00 a.m.: Appear in court for various arraignments, including robbery, assault, attempted murder, drunk and disorderly cases. Multiple arraignments for drug possession cases, both misdemeanor and felony.

12:30 p.m.: Break for lunch.

1:00 p.m.: Preliminary hearing for a felony drug possession case.

2:00 p.m.: Contact mental health professionals and schedule mental health intake for defendant charged with assault.

3:00 p.m.: Arrive at jail to speak with clients.

4:30 p.m.: Research and write motion for court on "intent to distribute" ketamine. Motion is due next week. Spend time on computer looking up statute and implications.

6:00 p.m.: Go home.
